Conservation

The fundamental principle of Yarnbala is caring for the land, caring for its wildlife and care for its community. This is responsible tourism that we think will stand the test of time.

This is why we’ve created the Yarnbala Foundation, our vision is to safeguard the unique biodiversity of the Lower Eyre Peninsula, ensuring its native flora and fauna flourish for generations to come. By protecting and maintaining the health of our ecosystems, we support the resilience of interconnected habitats, from inland woodlands to the surrounding bay systems and coastal waters.

We believe that fostering a deep connection with nature inspires meaningful action to protect it, recognising that a healthy environment not only sustains wildlife but also enriches the well-being of the broader community.

Care for the Land

Yarnbala has made significant investment in utilising 100% renewable energy sources, it provides best practice wastewater treatment systems and built sustainable and energy efficient structures, preventing approximately 1,330 kg’s of CO2 emissions entering our atmosphere each year.

Through collaborative efforts with local and state governments, Land Management and Heritage agreements were formed to ensure the protection of the flora and fauna for future generations. These are proper land management controls, also allowing for large amounts of carbon capture.

Throughout the last ten years, successful management of invasive Plant species such as Aleppo pines, Polygala and African Daisy has allowed the land to remain in its natural state. Initiatives have been implemented to monitor potential outbreaks in the future.

Produce cultivated using the family’s private orchard and seasonal bush food from the property has enabled a lighter footprint.

Care for the Wildlife

Yarnbala is leading the way in conservation practices for the vulnerable western pygmy possums with authentically crafted homes enabling monitoring through their own ‘safe haven’ program.

Actively support and promotion of local wildlife habitat and restoration projects by establishing natural nesting hollows. These hollows provide homes for various bird species, including owlet nightjars, tawny frogmouths, pardalotes and a diverse range of other birds.

Establishment of wildlife corridors have facilitated the movement of animals between Yarnbala and the National Parks in turn this reduces negative impact of habitat fragmentation and injury to native fauna.

Care for the community

Yarnbala offer impactful experiences that allow individuals and communities to understand the ways in which preserving environments directly benefits society.

Dedicated to raising awareness and imparting knowledge to our young students who represent the future generation.

The permanent preservation of Yarnbala has stopped any further future development, in turn generating socio-economic benefits for the surrounding community allowing for all to enjoy.
